Griko villages

There are several villages to visit that are part of the Calabrian Magna Graecia such as:

  • Bova, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy where the Archeoderi Archaeological Park is located, in the heart of the Hellenistic area of Reggio. The site includes a 4th century AD synagogue. with its polychrome mosaic depicting the most important Jewish symbols.
  • Pentedattilo, one of the best known, small and sometimes almost uninhabited villages in Greece.
  • Gallicianò (municipality of Condofuri), one of the most important villages of the Hellen-speaking Calabrian community, the only village where all the inhabitants still speak Greek-Calabrian. Here you will find the Ethnographic Museum, a small casket in which numerous objects of the tradition and culture of the Grecanic area are kept. The Orthodox rite church is also beautiful
Panaghìa tis Elladas (Madonna dei Greci).
  • Locri Epizephiri, city of Magna Graecia on the Ionian coast, the last of the colonies founded in Calabria. Inside the Archaeological Excavations it will be possible to admire the remains of the ancient colony, with its Sanctuaries equipped with monumental Templar buildings of which the best preserved is the Sanctuary of Persephone, interesting for the considerable amount of votive deposits found inside.
