The land quay extends northwards and is used for ferries landings that operate for passengers, cars and trucks along the routes to the ports of Messina and Tremestieri.<\/p>\n<p>The entrance is 230 m wide, while the quays measure approximately 1.2 km. The seabed is sandy and deep between 5 and 10 m, while the overall surface of the basin occupies about 6.7 ha.<\/p>\n<p>The main function of the port is the ferrying of railway carriages on ships built for this purpose and it is equipped with special lifting bridges that allow direct boarding.
